What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a cosmetic ear surgery done to correct the size, shape or position of the outer ear or pinna.

Indications

  • Ears which
  • Stick out too far from the head
  • Large in proportion or prominent
  • Asymmetry

Procedure Details

Otoplasty or correction of the prominent ears can be done under local anesthesia in adults and general anesthesia in children. It usually takes about 60- 90min and involves a skin incision at the crease behind the ear. Through this incision the cartilage is approached, missing folds created and the ear is pinned back into its position using sutures and skin is closed. Sutures are removed on the seventh post operative day.

Risks and Complications

Bleeding , infection and scarring mild asymmetry may occur.
